Los Cabos International Film Festival
The 8th Edition of the Los Cabos International Film Festival took place on November 13-17 with over $6,000,000 pesos in prize money awarded to the winners. This year the festival featured voices of fabulous women in cinema, highlighting the impact of women in the film industry, using the tagline and hashtag “Mujeres Fantásticas.” This 8th Edition included two days of red carpet galas featuring the films The Irishman and Jojo Rabbit with many stars in attendance including fan favorites Robert De Niro, Yalitza Aparicio, and Eiza González. During the closing ceremony, four very special awards were presented. The tribute to Excellence in Cinematography was awarded to Ellen Kuras, Mexican director Tatiana Huezo and American director Ira Sachs both received Spotlight awards, and the International Star Award went to Eiza González for her contribution to the visibility of Latin talent in the global film industry.Other recipients of Los Cabos International Film Festival 2019 awards included: The Twentieth Century by Matthew Rankin, La Paloma y el Lobo by Carlos Lenin, Observar Las Aves by Andrea Martínez Crowther, Temporada de Huracanes by Elisa Miller, Todos los Incendios by Mauricio Calderón Rico, Masa Madre by Mercedes Córdova, Aventurología by Ricardo Castro, Mi Interior es Una de Las Cosas Más Hermosas y Extrañas del Mundo by Nicolasa Ruiz, Dioses de México by Helmut Dosantos, Cosas Que No Hacemos by Bruno Santamaría Razo, Flora y Fauna by Nicolás Pereda, and Preciosísima Sangre produced by Nicole Maynard. Amira Ortiz also received recognition for the third time. The winning films were screened free of charge at Cinemex Puerto as part of LCIFF’s commitment to generating community in Los Cabos. @CabosFilmFestival
Direct from Nashville at Cachet Beach Club
Cachet Beach Club at Cabo Villas Beach Resort and Cachet Beach Hotel Los Cabos brought Blazing and Sony Recording Artists Brother Trouble and Hannah Dasher to Cabo San Lucas on December 8 for their “Direct From Nashville” country music concert on the beach! Brother Trouble is a country music duo with brothers Mark Sutton and Jason Sutton. Living in Nashville, Tennessee, the brothers are regular performers at Nashville hot spot Wildhorse Saloon. They are also past winners of Kenny Chesney’s “Next Big Star” and have even opened for Kenney Chesney on tour. Their unique sound and enjoyable lyrics had guests on their feet dancing the night away. Hannah Dasher is a Nashville transplant from Georgia, currently signed to Sony/ATV Nashville and working on her debut album, Heavy. According to her biography: “Hannah recently celebrated her first songwriting cut on Brad Paisley’s new Love and War album. The track entitled, “Go To Bed Early”, also features Hannah on background vocals.” Her spunky personality and amazing vocals were a welcome addition to the fun Country evening under the stars. Sabor a Cabo by American Express
Known by local foodies as the “event of the year”, Sabor a Cabo by American Express held their annual International food and wine festival on Saturday, November 30 at Club Campestre in San José del Cabo. The festival gathers more than 3,000 people to taste samples from 60 restaurants, concluding with a spectacular concert. As in previous years, there was an extensive assortment of wines by more than 80 winemakers, tequilas and mezcals, along with traditional cocktails. The entertainers for this year’s event included Spanish signer Ana Torroja, and wildly popular Columbian singer and songwriter Maluma with energetic back up dancers in neon outfits! Sabor a Cabo is one of the most important gastronomic festivals in Mexico. A culinary celebration where local ingredients, chefs, restaurants, wineries and the spectacular location merge into a sophisticated, fun and surprising night in Los Cabos.
