From February 28 to March 2, FOMARES invites us on an extraordinary journey into the open ocean to witness one of nature’s most awe-inspiring spectacles: humpback whales in their natural habitat. This unique expedition goes beyond whale watching—it is a fusion of live music, storytelling, and marine conservation, offering a profound experience that bridges the gap between art and the natural world.

Accompanying us on this voyage is world-renowned double bassist and composer Garth Stevenson. Known for his ability to blend music with the environment, Stevenson will perform live alongside these majestic creatures, crafting a “Dos Mares” song—a one-of-a-kind composition inspired by the rhythm of the whales and the soul of the sea. His music, shaped by the ebb and flow of the ocean and the calls of the whales, promises to be a mesmerizing tribute to marine life.

But this is more than just a performance—it is a historic moment that will be immortalized by an incredible team of storytellers. Acclaimed filmmaker Andy Mann, celebrated for his work in marine conservation and adventure storytelling, will be capturing the breathtaking encounters. Joining him is wildlife documentarian and conservationist Maru Brito, whose deep commitment to the ocean translates into powerful visual narratives. Artist and conservationist Alonso I. Rodríguez will also lend his artistic vision to document the event, ensuring that this remarkable fusion of music and marine life is preserved through stunning imagery and film.

This journey is a rare opportunity to witness a world where art and nature harmonize in real time. The ocean’s symphony, amplified by Stevenson’s compositions and captured by expert storytellers, offers a deeper understanding of marine life and the delicate balance of our planet’s ecosystems. More than just a spectacle, this experience serves as a call to action for the preservation of our oceans.

Through this expedition, we aim to inspire change and foster a stronger commitment to marine conservation. The event supports Depesca, a local NGO composed of artisanal fishers dedicated to protecting their waters. Their initiative, “Dos Mares,” seeks to obtain an official protection designation for the seas surrounding the beautiful Baja California state. By participating, we not only celebrate the beauty of the ocean but also contribute to safeguarding its future.

Join us in celebrating the majesty of the sea, the magic of music, and the power of storytelling to create a lasting impact. Let this experience remind us that nature is not just something to admire—it is something to protect.
