WHERE DO THE LOCALS EAT?

Campestre has been one of my go-to restaurants, long before I even moved to Cabo. Every time I flew down, Campestre would be on my list of places I MUST eat while I was in town. Fast forward to living full time in Cabo, and I have yet to find better chilaquiles anywhere! If I had to choose just five foods to eat for the rest of my life, Campestre chilaquiles would be on my list. For those who haven’t tried them, chilaquiles are a Mexican comfort food traditionally made with day old tortillas that are cut and fried into crispy chips, then simmered in a red or green sauce and topped with chicken, beef or eggs followed by onion, queso fresco (white cheese), cream and avocado. It’s also rumored to be a fantastic hangover remedy (which has proven to be true after many late nights out in Cabo). The media orden or half portion is more than enough for one person, although I have been known to eat a full order (to the shock and awe of my fellow diners) and feel overly stuffed for the entire day! Aside from chilaquiles, Campestre has a great assortment of breakfast foods, including pancakes, omelets, fruit platters and fresh squeezed juices you can order by the glass or pitcher. Lunch and dinner won’t disappoint either with large portions of traditional Mexican food at very reasonable prices. I love the arrachera, a big serving of beef steak served with rice, beans, tortillas, and guacamole. Don’t be surprised if you show up and see a line out the door, as this place is frequented by almost every local I know. Open Monday – Friday 7:30am – 9:00pm and Sunday 7:30am – 2:00pm. Closed Saturdays.

La Brisa Mariscos & Bar
Calling all seafood lovers…La Brisa is going to be your new favorite spot! La Brisa serves the freshest fish, ceviche, mariscos, sushi, sashimi, aguachile, tostadas & more. Their famous ͞Titanic Tostada͟ is a crowd favorite. If raw fish isn’t really your thing, try one of their mouth-watering hamburgers (choices include crispy shrimp, fish, or beef) on a house made bun, served artfully on a wood plank. La Brisa is one of the few places in town serving ice cold artisanal beer along with their full bar menu. There are TV’s for watching your favorite sports games or fights, lots of parking, and anair-conditioned area for the late summer months when dining outdoors gets uncomfortable. Located across from Auto Zone on highway 19 on the way to Todos Santos. Open daily from 11:00am – 11:00pm.

El Pollo De Oro De Los Cabos
For slow roasted rotisserie chicken, BBQ ribs and a variety of Mexican dishes, Cabo locals love El Pollo De Oro! They serve generous portions and the prices can’t be beat. Where else can you get a full order of BBQ ribs or roasted chicken (with rice, macaroni salad, tortillas and salsa) for only $140 pesos (roughly $8.24usd)? The full order could easily feed two people, or one if you are super hungry. Not only is the food great, but the service is excellent too! Don’t feel like dining in? El Pollo De Oro has a convenient to go window where you can order, pay and have your food in just minutes. They even have a free dedicated parking lot on Calle 20 De Noviembre. Just remember to get your ticket stamped and tip the lot attendant on your way out. In a City where parking is limited, this lot is a major bonus. Located on Calle Morelos, 3 blocks back from Fat Tuna. Open daily from 8:00am –10:00pm. Closed Tuesdays.

Maria Jimenez Restaurante Mexicano
For a true rustic Mexican restaurant experience, Maria Jimenez is a fantastic choice! This family run restaurant features authentic Mexican décor with hand painted plates, colorful artwork and even a wandering mariachi band. The marinated grilled chicken breast is my favorite (and a house specialty), served with black beans, rice and guacamole. But honestly, I’ve never tried anything I didn’t like at Maria Jimenez. Every guest receives a complimentary sopecito to start, which is a small corn patty with butter, sauce, black beans, cream and cheese. Wash it down with a fresh margarita, chips and fire roasted salsa that I could eat by the spoonful. At Maria Jimenez, you will feel like you are splurging without spending a fortune. The staff is very friendly, warm and accommodating. When I had my last birthday here, they even came out singing the traditional Mexican Happy Birthday song and served a special cake my friend had brought for me. Just don’t forget to bring cash, because credit cards are not accepted here. Located three blocks back from Puerto Paraiso Mall. Open daily from 2:00pm – 10:00pm. Closed Mondays.
