Hello! Welcome to paradise! It is great that you are here in Cabo in the middle of summertime. This time of year is one my favorites for many reasons, but it can be also very hot. So let me list some of my top cool ideas to help you have the coolest summer vacation in Los Cabos in every way:

Surfing is one of the perfect ways to cool off and refresh from the high temperatures, and for me surfing is one the coolest things to do. Besides cooling off from the hot sand and sun and having a lot of fun, surfing makes your body, mind and soul feel renewed. We have great spots to learn with amazing surf schools and instructors, and radical waves too for the experienced surfer. The Costa Azul area in Cabo is where you want to go to get some surf lessons and also rent a board, and Cerritos beach is the place on the Pacific side to try surfing for the first time. So get away from the heat by catching some cool waves this vacation.

Another fantastic way to cool off from the hot weather is to check out the cold pools, waterfalls and streams nearby Santiago town. This area is about 35 minutes north of the San Jose del Cabo airport within the Sierra La Laguna reserve, and its cold pools and waterfalls are absolutely magical. Have lunch there and enjoy a very different experience from the beaches of Cabo. Here within DESTINO Magazine, in the maps section you will find the town of Santiago. When you arrive to downtown Santiago, just ask a local resident where the pozas which means pools and cascadas which means waterfalls are, and they will happily give you directions.

A great way to enjoy the hot summer here in Cabo is to take a sunset stroll in downtown San Jose del Cabo. The city remodeled the main plaza and it turned out very nice. There are many benches to sit down and relax, as well as many different shops, restaurants and art galleries to have a very good time. The famous Art Walk takes place here every Thursday from November through June. The food carts that set up in the evening at the plaza are all delicious, as well as the mobile corn on the cob vendors. Within the downtown area there is also a very cool food truck park with many different incredible options to choose from. Maybe have a refreshing drink in one of the beautiful second floor terrazas that you can find all around, like one of my favorites at Dalton Bar, and enjoy the mystical views to the estuary and mountains.

Back in the water, snorkeling has got to be one of the all-time favorite activities to refresh from the hot sun and sand. I highly recommend you try it out this vacation. We have a lot amazing snorkeling spots with many species of tropical colorful fish and fascinating coral formations. Some top sites are Neptune's finger in Cabo San Lucas, Santa Maria bay and Chileno reef on the Cabo corridor, and La Sirenita and Arbolitos beach in Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. If you are into scuba diving, that may be the ultimate way to keep cool underwater and have a fun time. Not to mention the outstanding scuba companies and unimaginable scuba sites that we have here in southern Baja. Cabo Pulmo is highly recommended!

A sunset boat tour in Cabo will also be the right choice to do a refreshing activity during these hot summer days. There are many options to choose from, some have great dining and drinking, and others offer wonderful night shows, themed performances or a party atmosphere. But the most amazing thing is that you go past the famous arch which is very beautiful and unforgettable. This is the perfect activity to make your vacation absolutely memorable as the changing color of the sky will make this short voyage even more spectacular. A sailing trip/tour is a also a great choice for a really cool experience in every way.

A very refreshing and unforgettable experience is to visit Wild Canyon's Wagoona Splash Island! This is an adventurous and fun activity to totally cool off in the middle of Cabo's desert. Wagoona Splash Island has a pool that is 40 cm deep, making it ideal for kids and the floor is made up of a non-skid material giving the perfect surface for everyone to walk on safely. One of the main attractions is a bucket that spills 1,000 liters of water in waterfall form helping keep the pool water more cool. You can also enjoy laying out in the sun in the lounge chair area and order from the restaurant. Wagoona also has water slides and a fountain. The other cool thing about Wagoona is that you can visit their Animal Kingdom and sanctuary where all the animals there were rescued and taken care of. You can also cross the famous Canyon Bridge which is the longest vehicle and pedestrian wooden bridge in the world. Maybe also try zip lining which for sure is an out of water adventure that when soaring through the air will cool you down too. I highly recommended you to check out all the experiences at Wild Canyon and Wagoona Splash Island this summer.

Last month I wrote a piece on mangos and how it is mango season right now in Cabo, and I left out a couple delicious things that can be made from mangos and cool you off! One is mango water, which is the easiest thing to make. You just have to fill a blender with mango pulp, add ice and water and blend. To make it a bit sweeter you can add bee honey. This is the perfect drink to refresh on these hot days. Another delicious meal with mango that I forgot to mention in the previous issue, is mango with pumpkin seeds. For me this is a great surf food. During mango season, I usually have it before a surf session and it is perfect to have good energy and fuel, and not feel too heavy on the stomach. All I do is slice the mango and pour a lot of seeds on top, and then scoop it with a spoon. Mmm! It is a unique and tasty combination.

One last suggestion to cool off this summer vacation is to take a day trip to the Todos Santos area on the Pacific Ocean side. This area is known to have a micro climate which is created by the breezes of the Pacific Ocean and the high mountains of the Sierra La Laguna mountain range which for about a 30-mile distance come very close to the coast. This creates a lot of cool mist which is one of the factors why the area is great for agriculture. The climate varies but it can be 10 degrees Fahrenheit lower than Cabo and San Jose. Check out Pescadero town and Cerritos beach when visiting this area too. Ask about the fantastic farm-to-table restaurants in the area, as Pescadero is known for its wonderful organic farms.

Thanks for visiting Cabo and come back soon to cool off again in the hot Baja sun!
