Wild Canyon Adventures

Centrally located along the Los Cabos Tourist Corridor, El Tule is a scenic beach located in the rare quiet space between resorts. Relatively calm and peaceful next to its neighbors on the coast, El Tule is a favourite of locals and late-night bonfire enjoyers who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of San Jose or San Lucas. But if your thirst for adventure is insatiable and your daringness to venture off the beaten path is incomparable, El Tule is simply the entrance to a whole other beast of an attraction, a wide canyon in the middle of the desert known far and wide for its daring activities and memories that will stick with you forever. Hidden in the hills near El Tule, Wild Canyon is a truly special place. Getting there means winding roads, desert vistas and a drive into the deep Baja desert. Wild Canyon truly lives up to its name, making you feel like you’re journeying into a hidden and exotic part of the Baja, all the while being guided along the path by clear and convenient signs. After a bit of a winding climb, you’ll emerge at the entrance to Wild Canyon where you’ll be greeted by their friendly staff. From here, all it takes is a quick sign-in and release form to get yourself ready for adventure. You’re meant to make a reservation in advance, so you can decide exactly what you plan to do. Wild Canyon offers both day passes and purchases of specific activities, including zip-lining, bungee jumping, off-road vehicles, horse riding, and more. If you’re looking to purchase the day pass, you should really set aside a whole day to explore the activities. Maybe even two!If you’re a little spoiled for choice, feel free to look around. Complimentary maps are provided to all guests, and the incredibly helpful staff are more than happy to point out good places to start. Speaking of the staff, they’re some of the best in Cabo. Friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and proficient in both English and Spanish, I was blown away by how great they were. It takes a lot to spend all day in the hot sun working to deliver an incredible experience, but somehow they pull it off. My hat is off to them in every way.Over the next few editions, I’ll be talking about my experiences with Wild Canyon so you can get a taste of the magic. Still, there’s no better way to experience it than going yourself, and there’s no way I’ll be able to cover anything in just a few articles, let alone one. So, let’s take it step by step. Starting of course, with the canyon itself.Carved out over the last few millennia by water and wear, Wild Canyon’s titular canyon is a verdant oasis in the depths of the desert, a green paradise filled with palm trees and humble springs that give life to the canyon’s otherwise arid sands. This natural landmark is the center of operations, with many activities bringing you up and over the canyon’s edge to see the dizzying heights below. Ziplining, bungee jumping, even crossing a hanging bridge suspended 300 feet in the air. All of it centers around the Canyon. But one of the best parts of Wild Canyon, is how far you can roam. While it’s incredibly exciting to peer over the edge from the safety of the hanging bridge, it’s even more exciting to drive over said bridge after a journey through the desert. Thrillseekers would be amiss to go without trying out the ATV or UTV activities, following guides through the depths of the desert over scorching hills and through narrow canyons. More laid-back adventurers may want to follow similar paths on the backs of camels or horses, exploring the desert alongside some incredible creatures. You might get a little dusty, but if you’re anything like me then the chance to explore Baja’s uniquely beautiful terrain at any pace is a chance you don’t want to miss. Your journey could bring you as far as El Tule, or as close to home as revving over the canyon itself. It can be terrifying riding over the vast empty space of the canyon, but your guide will only take you where its safe Wherever and however your journey goes, you’ll be sure to get a much better feel for the beauty of the Baja, be it at high speed or a gentle trot. You’ll come back to the heart of Wild Canyon with a new perspective, and a ton of activities still left to explore! If you want to discover them for yourself, Wild Canyon is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM seven days a week. If not, keep an eye out for next edition… you still might change your mind!
